Well it's that time of year again!
We have no AC in our apartment so not heating up the house with cooking is a big issue. So my oven and rotisserie are out of use until at least October!
So what do I use instead? These gadgets:
1.) Air oven: I use a model that's long been out of production because I'm cheap and like to buy my kitchen toys at thift shops. All I can say is if you ever spot a "Galloping Gorumet Perfection-Aire" at a secondhand store, SNAG IT! It's fantastic for meats, even lowfat ones like buffalo and fish. I even heat up Hubby's leftover pizza in it because it crisps up the crust. I use this thing practially every day because it's easy to clean and does such a good job.
2.) GT express 101 : Again, got mine seconhand but they're pretty cheap if you have a store called Big Lots in your area. Great for easy breakfasts: I can blend up my eggs, cheese, cream and seasonings the night before, pour it into the machine in the morning and my omlette cooks while I'm in the shower! Eating breakfasts on workdays is a challenge for me so it's a big help.
3.) Crock pot - If I ever her someone tell me they don't have time to cook, the first thing I ask is "Don't you have a crock pot?" these things are fantastic! Drop a chicken in it add a little seasoning ( and I always add butter ) and go to bed - In the morning you have a roasted chicken for lunch and dinner that day! There goes that excuse!
Of course there's also the wonderful upshot of the hot weather : Fresh veggies and fruits like tomatoes and berries! This is the easiest time of year for me to be on a diet. I'm a lot more active and all the healthiest stuff is cheap, local, and tasty!
