Once again- I don't get it!

Well, the holiday advertisements have started, and it seems that in a lot of health web sites, there's a huge amount of ainxiety over gaining weight over the next 2 months.
Christmas, I completely understand. The food pushers go into hyperdrive with tons of sweets- it's so annoying!
But Thanksgiving? I don't see any reason Thanksgiving can't be one awesome healthy meal!
Most of the major components of the thanksgiving dinner are in fact, superfoods:
1. Turkey:

2. Pumpkin:http://www.superfoodsrx.com/superfoods/pumpkin/pumpkin-as-a-super-food.html
No, not in pie! It's easy to make a pumpkin custard (no crust) I bake them up in heatproof coffee mugs and even eat it for breakfast. It's also great :
In a protein shake ( add a little chai spice/ sugarfree chai syrup with it - awesome!)
As a soup with chicken broth, a little curry powder and a little cream. fantastic on a cold day and takes minutes to make
3. Cranberries http://www.wellwire.com/food/superfoods-food/cranberries just don't load them with sugar.
I made my own cranberry sauce recently with 3 bags of fresh cranberries, a jar of Walden Farms Strawberry spread, and about 1/3 of a cup of pineapple flavor Da Vinci Syrup (I was finishing off a bottle in this situation but orange, rasberry, or any combination of them works well, too) I threw them all into the Crockpot and went to bed. Normally Walden farms products are useless but in this case it gave a nice, jellied consistency. It turned out wonderful!
Now I know -what's thanksgiving without mashed potatoes? Try mashed cauliflower instead!

One More I have to add: Brussel Sprouts. They're in season right now and they're so cute! Somebody should re-name them "baby cabbage" to lose their un-deserved bad reputation. Of course if you overcook any of the cabbage family vegetables they turn out limp, bownish and sulfur tasting. Ugh, disgusting!
However they're so delicious roasted: cut them in half , drizzle with olive oil, add a little garlic salt and chili pepper flakes. They're wonderful - this is one vegetable I could easily use up all my carbs on!
